I met Brian at a local Camera Club meeting in town. He was very pleasant and friendly and he was eager to show me some of the images he had taken in the "Burning Man" festival held once a year in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada. I had never heard of this festival before so I was curious as to what it was all about after seeing his photos. His images were STRIKING. He explained that he had worked as an entrance guard at the event for the last 15 years and that 75,000 people showed up for this "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" type event. Every year, interesting characters, of all types, meet in the desert to wear all kinds of interesting & creative costumes. This included wonderful and unique displays ranging from five story robotic mannequins controlled by event participants to mechanical fire breathing dragons pulled by tractors.
After viewing his intriguing images, I got the idea to invite Brian to my studio in an attempt to document him on an intimate level. When I brought up the idea of him posing, he was a bit skeptical and nervous about it, since photographers don't usually like their images taken. I did promise him we were going to have great time and that I would put him at ease. We spent the next two hours joking and laughing and getting to know each other. These are the images of Brian. Enjoy!
